Rainy Day Activities In Deep Creek Lake, Maryland

Don’t let rain spoil your Deep Creek Lake vacation! A Deep Creek local once said “If you don’t like the weather in Deep Creek, wait 5 minutes.” This is so incredibly true! If you have an upcoming trip to Deep Creek and have been stalking the weather apps only to find rain forecasted each day, I have some good news for you! It rarely rains all day in Deep Creek. When it does rain, it is likely that it will only rain on certain parts of the lake at a time and the rain usually passes through quickly.

In the summer, if we are out on the boat during the day and the sky looks gray, we check the radar and drive the boat to a different part of the lake where it is sunny. It is easy to dodge rainstorms on the lake. However, if you do find yourself looking for something to do on a rainy day in Deep Creek, these rainy day activities will keep your vacation fun going!

Deep Creek Fun Zone

Head to Deep Creek Fun Zone on a rainy day for a round of laser tag or experience their Mini Ninja Factory course. There is also an arcade that features over 50 games! If it’s cool and cloudy and not actively raining, you can also check out their two Go-Kart race tracks, miniature golf and bumper boats. Deep Creek Funland

Deep Creek Funland is another arcade to check out on a rainy day. For a cloudy and cool day, Funland also has mini golf, go-karts, a carousel and a climbing wall.

BYOB at Fun Unlimited

The Fun Unlimited arcade is fun for all ages! Boasting over 100 games, this arcade is also BYOB. Adults can bring beer or wine to enjoy while playing both vintage and modern games.

Simon Pearce Glass Blowing

Visit the Simon Pearce factory in Deep Creek and observe the glass blowing from the observation deck. Glass blowing hours are daily from 10 am to 2 pm. This is a great rainy day activity for both adults and kids.

Discovery Center at Deep Creek State Park

Check out the Discovery Center at Deep Creek Lake State Park. The Discovery Center features exhibits, children’s programs, an aviary, special events and a gift shop.

Indoor Golf Simulator

Don’t let rain spoil your golf weekend! The Bogey Golf Club Lounge indoor golf simulator is the perfect escape from the rain.

Wisp Escape Room

Wisp Resort offers 2 different escape room games: Pirates of Deep Creek and Detention Breakout. An escape room is a great rainy day option in Deep Creek Lake.

Indoor Pool, Gym & Basketball Courts at CARC

Get a day pass to Garrett Community College’s CARC (Community Aquatic and Recreation Center). CARC has two indoor pools, a competition pool, kept at 80 degrees, and a warm pool, kept at 90 degrees. There is also a state of the art gym and basketball courts.

Wine & Beer Tastings

Spend a rainy day with wine and beer tastings. Visit Short Story Brewing, Brewery and the Beast, Mountain State Brewery and Vagabond Tap Room for IPL flights. The Wine Cellar at Deep Creek, Black Bear Wine & Words and Deep Creek Cellars all offer indoor wine tastings. Branch Bender Cidery’s tasting room is outside, but completely covered so you will stay dry. Deep Creek Lake Charcuterie can make you a board to bring to your wine tasting!

If you don’t feel like venturing out in the rain, Deep Creek Wine Tastings brings the tasting right to you! Set up a wine tasting with them in your rental home.

Liberated Libations Inc offers cocktail lessons in your home, a fun and unique experience on a rainy afternoon!

Deep Creek Axe Throwing

Have some rainy day fun axe throwing at Deep Creek Axe Throwing Co. This is located next to the Monkey Business ropes course, which is a fun thing to do on a cool and cloudy day.

Candyland

Candyland in Oakland is one of Deep Creek’s hidden gems. This store is home to over 900 varieties of candy, including throw-back, nostalgic candies dating back to the 1950’s. If you can think of a type of candy, they probably have it! The majority of the candies can be mixed in a pay per pound form, while others are sold individually. Candyland is a treat for all ages!

OMG Relax Touchless Massage

Spend an hour at OMG Relax getting a touchless massage in one of their state of the art massage chairs. If you haven’t had a full body massage in one of these chairs, put this on your list to do next time you are in Deep Creek!

Bowling at The Alley

Rainy days are the perfect days for bowling. The Alley is Deep Creek’s only bowling alley. With 12 lanes of bowling, they also offer shuffle board, pool tables, darts and arcade games.

Deep Creek Pottery

Paint your own pottery at Deep Creek Pottery. This is a great rainy day activity for all ages.

Garrett 8 Cinemas Movie Theater

On a rainy day in Deep Creek, go see a movie at the Garrett 8 Cinemas movie theater. The movie theater is located across the street from the Honi Honi and Uno’s Restaurant, giving you the option of doing a meal and a movie or a movie and a drink!

Deep Creek Lake Shopping

Spend a dreary afternoon in Deep Creek shopping at the best boutiques around the lake. Bear Creek Traders, Schoolhouse Earth, Tru South, The Tourist Trap, High Mountain Sports, A Mountain Fix, Bougie Bottoms Boutique, Four Fires and The Painted Cupboard are some of my favorites!

Oakland B&O Train Museum

Another fun rainy day activity in Deep Creek is the Oakland B&O Train Museum. You can tour the museum on your own or sign up for a guided tour of both the museum and the trains.

Trader’s Coffee House

Warm up a cold, rainy day with coffee and pastries from Trader’s Coffee House. Trader’s offers delicious breakfast and lunch food, too.

Laurel Caverns

If you are up for a day trip, escape the rain with short drive to Laurel Caverns-Pennsylvania’s biggest cave. Laurel Caverns is only an hour drive from Deep Creek and features over four miles of cave passageways to explore.

Rainy Day Cocktails

Take the opportunity to shelter from rain while sipping the best craft cocktails in Deep Creek Lake. The Honi-Honi Bar, Pawn Run and Firewater Kitchen & Bar are my favorite places to go for delicious cocktails.

Indoor Games & Competitions

One of our favorite things to do on a rainy day in Deep Creek is some good old-fashioned competition! Finger football, indoor mini-corn hole and ring toss are our go-to competition games. We set up teams and have full-blown tournaments (yes, with brackets and everything LOL). Minute-To-Win-It games are also a lot of fun.
