Tree Lighting Festivities at the Honi Honi
The Honi Honi turns their lakefront lawn into an expansive Christmas scene, complete with a large Christmas tree. Each year, on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, they hold their Tree Lighting which features live Christmas music, hot cocoa, s’mores over the patio fire pit and photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus. A Great Small Town Christmas in Deep Creek
The town of Oakland hosts A Great Small Town Christmas in the beginning of December. This 2 day event features the Oakland Christmas tree lighting, a parade, sleigh rides, shopping, live music, soup stations and visits with Santa.
Christmas Igloo Dining in Deep Creek
Mountain State Brewing Co in Deep Creek offers festive igloo dining in the winter. In December, the igloos have Christmas decor inside, including mini Christmas trees and electric fireplaces. These heated igloos can accommodate up to 7 people. Reservations must be made in advance. Click here for igloo reservations.

Christmas Light Show at the Oakland Armory
The Oakland Armory puts on an amazing Christmas light show called the Joy of Christ. The light show features Christmas Carols synchronized with lights on a giant light tree. The show restarts every 30 minutes from 5-10 pm, beginning the day after Thanksgiving. The show can be viewed from inside your vehicle, tuning your car radio to the coordinating radio station, or from outdoors, listening to the music from the show speakers. This is a very fun & festive thing to do in Deep Creek during the Christmas season. Click here for their Facebook page.
Festival of Trees in Deep Creek
The Festival of Trees is held annually on Thanksgiving weekend (Friday and Saturday). The event benefits the Dove Center, Garrett County’s domestic violence and sexual assault assistance program and has raised over $200,000 for the the center since the festival began. The festival, held at the main building of the Garrett County Fairgrounds, features donated Christmas trees decorated in different themes by local designers, which visitors can bid on during the Saturday night live auction. There are several activities throughout the days, including Frosty’s Funland, Christmas shopping, cookie decorating and pictures with Santa. The Festival of Trees is a fun start to the Christmas season!
Christmas in the Village
The Spruce Forest Artisan Village at Little Crossings in nearby Grantsville hosts Christmas in the Village each year. Christmas in the Village is usually held in the beginning of December, and features the tree lighting, live music, luminaries, crafts, visits with Santa and a live nativity. Christmas at Woodlake Tree Farm
If you want to cut down your own Christmas Tree, Woodlake Tree Farm is the place to go in Deep Creek. Reservations are required for tree cutting. If you aren’t in the market for a fresh cut tree, Woodlake Tree Farm is still a must-visit winter destination. Their Christmas Shop has the most beautiful rustic chic Christmas decor for sale. Their creative displays make this one of my favorite things to do at Christmas in Deep Creek. The Christmas Shop at Woodlake Tree Farm opens the day after Thanksgiving and remains open throughout the tree-cutting season.
Horse Drawn Sleigh Rides
One of the most fun & festive things to do at Christmas time in Deep Creek is a horse drawn sleigh ride. Dashing through the snow, in a one horse open sleigh….you will find yourself in the middle of the Christmas Carol Jingle Bells! Pleasant Valley Dream Rides and Circle R Ranch both offer horse drawn sleigh rides during the winter months. Nothing is more idyllic and festive than riding on a horse drawn sleigh through the snow covered fields. Be sure to check out both websites for more information, as these sleigh rides are subject to snow!
Drive Through Light Display at Broadford Park
Take your hot cocoa in to-go cups, pile into the car in your pjs, turn on some Christmas music and drive through 1.4 miles of Christmas lights at Broadford Park. With over 40 Christmas displays, this is a fun and festive thing to do at Christmastime in Deep Creek. The display, which benefits Southern Garrett High School, runs from 6-9 pm nightly from the first weekend in December until January 2nd. The cost is $10 per vehicle.
Mosser Meadows for Christmas Greenery & Decor
Explore the beautiful Christmas displays at Mosser Meadows Nurseries as you shop for Christmas trees, wreaths, garland, and more decor. The smell of fresh pine throughout the nursery just adds to this festive Christmas experience in Deep Creek.
Downtown Oakland B&O Christmas Train
The town of Oakland decorates the B&O train to look like the Polar Express during Christmas. While looking at the festive train, check out the B&O Train Museum.
Shopping For Christmas Decor & Gifts
These year round stores are transformed during the Christmas season with Christmas decor, gifts, festive apparel, food and treats, and cards and wrapping paper. Spend a day Christmas shopping for cute and unique gifts in Deep Creek.
