Gluten Free Guide To Deep Creek Lake

If you are planning a trip to Deep Creek Lake and are on a gluten free diet, this is the post for you! Whether you have celiacs disease, a gluten sensitivity or are gluten free by choice, there are several options for you in Deep Creek Lake. I have been gluten free since I was diagnosed with celiacs four years ago and have found it easy to find gluten free food in Deep Creek. This is your gluten free guide to Deep Creek Lake.

Gluten Free Grocery Shopping in Deep Creek

There are two grocery stores that offer gluten free options in Deep Creek.

1. Shop N’ Save in McHenry

The best place to shop for gluten free food in Deep Creek is the Shop N’ Save in McHenry. When you enter the Shop N Save, to the right of the produce section is The Gourmet Shop.

The Gourmet Shop contains a large supply of gluten free items, including snacks, desserts, entrees and baking supplies. The Gourmet Shop also has a large supply of organic food as well. In addition to the Gourmet Shop section of the store, the regular freezer section also has some gluten free desserts and baked goods.

Walmart in Oakland

The Walmart in Oakland carries some gluten free items, but there is not nearly the wide selection that you will find at Shop N’ Save.

The food prices, in general, are cheaper at Walmart, which is better for big shopping trips. However, if you are looking for specific gluten free options, Shop N’ Save is the best place to go.

Gluten Free Restaurants In Deep Creek

The good news is that you can find something to eat that is gluten free at all of the restaurants in Deep Creek. All of the restaurants offer naturally gluten free food like meat, veggies and salads. You can always order a burger with no bun or the standard grilled chicken salad. However, some restaurants offers gluten free substitutes or specific gluten free menu options.

The restaurants I am covering in this post all have specific gluten free substitutes and menu options that are really delicious!

It is always important to check with your server to make sure that the menu items are gluten free. Some menu items may be cooked on shared equipment.

Ace’s Run

Ace’s Run is one of my top two choices for gluten free dining in Deep Creek. They have one of the largest selections of gluten free menu items. Their menu clearly indicates which dishes are gluten free with a “GF” and it also lists when gluten free substitutes are available. Some of my favorite substitutes at Ace’s Run are gluten free pasta, gluten free corn bread (which is my absolute favorite–I get it every time I go!), and gluten free sandwich & burger buns. Ace’s Run is also located lakefront which is an added bonus!

Uno’s Pizzeria & Grill

Uno’s is the other Deep Creek restaurant in my top two for gluten free dining. Similar to Ace’s Run, they have a large selection of gluten free menu items, and in addition, they offer gluten free substitutes for almost every item on their menu!

Their substitutes include gluten free pasta, gluten free buns and my favorite–their gluten free pizza! The first time I had it, I actually asked the server to confirm that it was gluten free because it did not look or taste like most gluten free pizzas. The crust was THICK and delicious! I am used to the thin, crispy cauliflower crust pizzas, which are not bad, but Uno’s gluten free crust tastes just like regular pizza! Uno’s is also located lakefront, adjacent to the Honi Honi Bar.

Moonshadow

Moonshadow has several gluten free options on their menu, all that are clearly marked with a “GF.” They also offer gluten free bread substitutes. Moonshadow also has a delicious brunch menu with gluten free options in addition to eggs and bacon, like the “Breakfast Rice Bowl.”

Brenda’s Pizzeria

Brenda’s Pizzeria is another great place to dine gluten free in Deep Creek Lake. Located directly across the street from the lake and its transient docks, Brenda’s offers delicious gluten free pasta and gluten free pizza.

Mountain State Brewing

Deep Creek’s Mountain State Brewing is famous for their delicious flatbread pizzas and all of their flatbread pizzas come with the option of gluten free crust! My favorite is the North Camp which is a white pizza with spinach, chicken and cranberries. My husband loves the Fire on the Mountain which is a delicious spicy pizza.

Pawn Run

Pawn Run has several gluten free options on their menu. Some of my favorite dishes at Pawn Run are the gluten free flatbread (I like the Prosciutto & Arugula gluten free flatbread best–pictured here!), the Street Tacos (be sure to request corn tortillas–the default is flour) and the Firecracker Chicken Skewers.

Trader’s Coffee House

In addition to gluten free baked goods, Trader’s Coffee House offers gluten free breakfast and lunch sandwiches. Any of their sandwiches can be put on gluten free panini bread, but my favorite is their gluten free bacon, egg and cheese panini sandwich. It is my go-to for breakfast and coffee!

Tomanetti’s Pizza

Tomanetti’s is located in Downtown Oakland, about 10-15 minutes from central Deep Creek Lake and offers gluten free pizza options with cauliflower crust.

Gluten Free Desserts & bakeries in Deep Creek

If you are looking for freshly baked gluten free pastries, cakes and cookies, you are in luck! Deep Creek offers several different establishments that make fresh baked gluten free items.

Trader’s Coffee House

Trader’s has a case full of fresh baked goods and the top shelf is always full of gluten free pastries, cookies and muffins. During the holidays, you can custom order gluten free cookies and pies from Trader’s and in the fall they have my absolute favorite gluten free treat– the pumpkin roll!

I’ve never had their regular pumpkin roll, but judging on how unbelievably delicious the gluten free one is, I can’t imagine how amazing the regular one is! Their gluten free pumpkin roll is such a hit that I always buy extra to bring back to my gluten free friends as treats.

Stephanie’s Sweet Shop

If you are in Deep Creek for a celebration, Stephanie’s Sweet Shop is the place to go for a gluten free cake or cupcakes. In addition to custom order cakes, Stephanie’s Sweet Shop also offers other gluten free baked goods and pastries.

Espresso Alley

Espresso Alley, in addition to having the most creative and delicious selection of coffee drinks, also serves up gluten free baked goods from Sam’s Sweets. Sam’s Sweets is located in Westernport, Maryland–about 30 minutes from Deep Creek, but you can purchase her baked goods, both regular and gluten free, at Espresso Alley in McHenry.

Just because a restaurant is not listed in this post does not mean that you can’t find something gluten free on the menu. One of my favorite restaurants in Deep Creek is not on this list only because they don’t offer gluten free substitutions. I still love it and just order meat and veggies whenever I go there!
