Trying to decide where to stay in Maui? You’re not alone. Each part of the island offers something totally unique — from the luxurious resorts of Wailea and Ka’anapali to the surfer vibes in Paia and the remote tranquility along the Road to Hāna. Whether you’re traveling as a couple, a family, or solo, this guide breaks down the best places to stay in Maui by region, including both hotel and Airbnb options.
When it comes to vacation rentals, keep in mind that air conditioning is not a given in Maui, even with some of the more luxurious rentals. If A/C is important to you, be sure to check before booking to see if it is included. Some places might have window units in the bedrooms only while others will have central air conditioning.

Final Thoughts: Where Should You Stay in Maui?
There’s no one “best” area in Maui — it truly depends on your travel style. If you want luxury and sunshine, Wailea is perfect. For charming beach town vibes, head to Paia. And if you’re all about adventure and dramatic coastlines, consider staying overnight in Hāna. Wherever you stay, Maui’s magic will find you.
Tip: Don’t be afraid to split your time between two areas — like 3 nights in Wailea and 2 nights in Paia — to get a fuller island experience. Also, keep in mind your itinerary. If you are staying in West Maui, but planning to visit Haleakala and drive the Road to Hana, you will be spending a significant amount of time in the car.
