I recently had my fifth stay at the Hotel Hive in Washington, DC. It is very apparent why the Hotel Hive has been ranked the #1 hotel in Washington DC on TripAdvisor for several years in a row. The Hotel Hive is Washington, DC’s first Micro Hotel. This boutique hotel is chic, modern and not your run-of-the mill hotel. Let’s explore what makes Hotel Hive unique and a fabulous 5 star rated hotel.
Hotel Hive-a Micro Hotel
A micro hotel is a concept in the hospitality industry that focuses on providing compact yet functional accommodations, typically with a smaller physical footprint compared to traditional hotels. Micro hotels prioritize efficient use of space while offering essential amenities and modern design. The term “micro” reflects the emphasis on optimizing space and resources to create a more streamlined and cost-effective lodging experience.
The Hotel Hive features cleverly designed rooms that maximize space utilization, incorporating multifunctional furniture and smart storage solutions. While the room size may be smaller than what you’d find in a standard hotel, the Hotel Hive provides a comfortable and contemporary environment for guests who value efficiency and affordability.
The concept has gained popularity in urban areas, like Washington DC, where space is at a premium and travelers are seeking a convenient and well-designed place to stay without compromising on quality.
Hotel Hive Location
Location, location, location! Hotel Hive is located directly across the street from George Washington University, and only a short walk to the National Mall and White House. The hotel is a short 3 blocks away from the Foggy Bottom Metro Station, giving you convenient access to all that Washington, DC has to offer, without needing a car.
If you do arrive by car, parking is available for $24 per day. There is no onsite parking, but Hotel Hive has partnered with Columbia Parking Plaza, which is a parking garage diagonally across the street from the hotel.
Hotel Hive Rooms
The rooms at the Hotel Hive are modern, chic and cleverly designed. Most importantly, they are SPOTLESS. This is by far the cleanest hotel I have ever stayed in. Because it is a micro hotel, the rooms are small, but have everything you would need and nothing you don’t. The only wall decor is word art in the form of a clever quote. The mirrors even have the clever quote vibe.
I have stayed in both the Loft rooms and the Hive rooms. The Loft rooms are on the top floor and have higher ceilings with exposed wood beams, giving the room a larger feel. The Hive rooms on the lower floors are equally beautiful, with exposed brick walls. My favorite room at the Hotel Hive, Is the most unique… circle room.
For families, the Hotel Hive has Connector rooms. These rooms feature a Hive Room and a connecting Bunk Room. The best part of the Connector rooms, is that they do not open to a hallway, they are in their own pod with a separate door. If you have a Connector room, your hotel key opens a door that takes you to two other doors, one for each room. This is great for families with kids.
For those looking for the most affordable room and who stay up late or don’t mind noise, the Buzz rooms are a good option. These Buzz rooms are located directly above or below the Hive Bar and can be noisy, hence the name and affordable rate.
