St. Lucia is my personal  favorite island in the Caribbean.  While most of the Caribbean islands are flat, St. Lucia is mountainous, with tropical rainforests, volcano mud baths, stunning beaches and the famous Grand Pitons volcanic peaks.  Whether you want to spend the week relaxing on the beautiful beaches, bathing in volcanic springs, or exploring the rainforest with zip lines and aerial trams, there is truly something for everyone in St. Lucia.  It is perfect for both romantic getaways and family vacations.   These are the top things to do in St. Lucia.

Airport Transfers

The main airport in St. Lucia is Hewanorra (UVF), which is located in the southern tip of the island.  Many of the big resorts are located in the northern part of the island, near Gros Islet.  This includes Castries and the beautiful resorts of Rodney Bay.   It is a 1 1/2 hour drive from UVF airport to Rodney Bay and it is almost an hour drive from UVF airport to Soufriere.  

Many resorts offer airport transfers or shuttles.  One thing to note is that the road from the airport to the resort areas is not always smooth.  There are a lot of turns and it can be quite bumpy at times. If you are prone to car sickness, this drive can be unpleasant.  These are the options for airport transfers in St. Lucia

Helicopter Airport Transfer

A great option for airport transfer is to use St. Lucia Helicopters.  The helicopter ride to the northern side is just 15 minutes long instead of an hour and a half.  Not only is this a much faster option, but it is incredibly scenic, too.  

The helicopter ride from the south to the north flies inland through the lush rainforests and over Mount Gimie, the tallest peak on the island. 
The helicopter ride back to the airport from th north is along the coast, where you will fly right by and over the top of the Pitons.  Our pilot did a 360 degree spin on top of Grand Piton.  It was INCREDIBLE!

Ferry Boat Airport Transfer

Another option for airport transfer in St. Lucia is a ferry boat  Board a ferry that takes you on a scenic boat ride along the coast of St. Lucia en route to your accommodations.  The ferry the same amount of time as driving, but you get to relax with drinks, snacks and music on the deck of a boat while taking in the gorgeous scenery. Private Car Airport Transfer

Snorkeling & Boat Tours

Taking a boat tour of the island is one of the top things to do in St. Lucia.  Many of these boat tours include snorkeling as well as land tours.  Whale watching and sunset boat tours are also very popular.

Tet Paul Nature Trail

The Pitons are the famous symbol of St. Lucia.  This set of twin peaks, Gros Piton and Petit Piton, are the stunning backdrop of this gorgeous island.  One of the best way to view the Pitons by land is on the Tet Paul Nature Trail.  This short, easy hiking trail (about 1 mile roundtrip), will take you to two different Piton viewpoints.

Pigeon Island & Fort Rodney

Hiking Trails

It is possible to hike the majestic Pitons, but St. Lucia requires guides for both Gross Piton and Petit Piton.  These hikes are very challenging and require a lot of climbing.  Petit Piton is the most challenging of the two.  For more information on the Piton hikes,  click the links below.
