The Absolute Must-Do Boat Tour in Milos, Greece

must-do boat tour in Milos Greece

Milos, Greece, is a true paradise for those who love both relaxing on a beach and adventure.  Our favorite part of our Milos vacation was the boat tour to Kleftiko.   One of the most beautiful places in Milos is Kleftiko, which is only reachable by boat. Kleftiko is stunning  with its bright turquoise water, towering white rock formations and ancient pirate caves.  A trip to Milos would be incomplete without a boat trip to this gorgeous part of the island.  This is everything you need to know about the absolute must-do boat tour in Milos, Greece.

We booked this full day boat tour with Sailing Cruises through Trip Advisor on our first full day in Milos.  It was the PERFECT start to our Milos vacation.

I recommend booking your boat tour at the beginning of your stay.  It can be windy in Milos, and boat tours will cancel if it is too windy.  If your tour is canceled due to wind, you will still have time to reschedule it if you have it booked at the beginning of your trip.

Begin at the Port of Adamantas

The boat tour begins at 10:00 am at the Port of Adamantas.  There are several charters that leave at the same time out of this port, so be sure to leave yourself time to find parking and walk to the boat.  We were able to find parking  quickly, but had about 10 minute walk from the parking spot to the boat.   Adamantas has several breakfast restaurants if you want to eat before boarding.  The boat is usually anchored directly across from Mentor Cafe, which serves breakfast.  The reviews for Mentor were mixed so we opted to eat down the street at Mangata and it was great.

The Boat & Crew

Our boat was a 45 foot sailboat led by Captain Andy and his first mate Aldie.  The boat had an indoor cabin with a restroom, but most of the time we sat outside on either the front or the back of the boat.

When we first set sail, Captain Andy went over the necessary safety instructions, and then we had the chance to introduce ourselves.  This is a small group tour with a maximum of 10 passengers.  When you book your tour, you select your tour language of choice.  We chose English and it turned out that all the passengers on our tour were from the United States, like us!  It was mostly couples, with the exception of a group of four girlfriends on a girls trip.

Sail & Motor Boat

When we first set out, the wind was strong enough to rely solely on the sail. For about 30 minutes, we glided through the waters, powered only by the breeze. However, as the wind began to shift, we switched to the motor to maintain our course and continue exploring the island’s stunning coastline.

We passed by the fishing village of Klima, with the brightly colored garage doors.  This was great to see from the water, but is also worth visiting by land at some point during your Milos stay.

Stop 1:  Kalogries Beach

Our first stop on the tour was Kalogries Beach. Once the boat was anchored, Andy and Aldie handed us pool noodles to help us swim to shore. The water was incredibly clear, and shallow enough that we only needed the noodles for a short distance before we could stand and walk along the beach.

The tour also included snorkel gear.  We actually brought our own snorkel masks, so we didn’t use the provided gear.

Kalogries Beach was a great spot to cool off, snorkel and  swim, but in comparison to the other stunning locations we visited late in the tour, we realized this was just the warm up!

After 30 minutes exploring Kalogries Beach, we returned to the boat to continue our adventure!

Stop 2:  Sikia Cave

The second stop on our boat tour was the stunning Sikia Cave, a true highlight of Milos. This remarkable cave is set against a backdrop of bright white rock formations, with crystal-clear turquoise waters at its entrance. The most striking feature of Sikia Cave is its partially collapsed ceiling, which has created a natural skylight that allows sunlight to pour in, casting a beautiful glow throughout the cave’s interior and reflecting off the water below.

At the cave, there were only four boats anchored, including ours, alongside three other Polco Sailing boats that we tied up to. Once again, we were provided with pool noodles and snorkel gear before plunging into the turquoise water . The sea inside the cave was calm and peaceful, perfect for swimming and snorkeling.

Lunch in Sikia Cave

After about an hour of swimming and snorkeling in the cave, we were welcomed back onto the boat with a plate of Mezze. At first, I thought this was our lunch, but Captain Andy explained that it was actually Mezze—more of a heavy snack.

Not long after sampling the Mezze, the real lunch was served: a delicious pasta dish that smelled incredible. As someone who is gluten-free, I was delighted to be accommodated with a tasty potato salad dish and a fresh Greek salad. The food was absolutely delicious, and I truly appreciated the thoughtful attention to my dietary needs.

Andy and Aldie offered us all a glass of Ouzo, a traditional Greek liquor, for a toast during lunch.

After lunch, we headed back underway to our next stop.  Sikia Cave was so incredible, I thought at this point it was going to be the highlight of our tour.  I had no idea that the best was yet to come!

Stop 3:  Kleftiko Sea Caves

This tour definitely saved the best for last— the absolutely incredible Kleftiko! From the moment we arrived, we were completely blown away by the sheer beauty and awe-inspiring nature of the place. The dramatic white rock formations, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and hidden caves made Kleftiko feel like something straight out of a dream.

As we approached, we were immediately struck by the towering arch shaped rock formations.  It was like something out of a magazine spread, so breathtaking that it was hard to know where to focus. Everywhere we looked, beauty surrounded us— jagged cliffs, caves to explore, and the most vivid blue waters imaginable. I couldn’t stop snapping pictures and videos, trying to capture the sheer magic of it all.  It felt surreal!

Snorkeling in Kleftiko

After cruising through the stunning rock formations on our sailboat, we anchored in Kleftiko to swim and snorkel.  We snorkeled in a shallow cave lined with stacked rock formations.

Exploring Sea Caves in Kleftiko by Zodiac Boat

After snorkeling, Captain Andy  had us all hop onto the small rubber Zodiac boat we had been towing behind the sailboat throughout the day.

From there, he took us right into the heart of Kleftiko’s sea caves! The experience of riding right into the dark, cool caves was absolutely incredible—each one seemed more magical than the last.  First mate Aldie, took GoPro footage of the cave exploring which they shared with us by email later that day.

Captain Andy took us to the “Dragon Cave,” where the waves crash in and out, creating a deep, roaring sound that truly felt like a dragon was inside.

We even explored a cave with multiple connected chambers, each one more fascinating than the next. The whole experience felt like an adventure out of a movie—something we’ll never forget!

Cliff Jumping In Kleftiko

After exploring the sea caves of Kleftiko, Captain Andy brought the Zodiac boat up to a rocky formation perfect for cliff jumping. He asked if anyone was up for the challenge, and about half the group eagerly climbed up the rocks to the jumping spot.

One by one, we took the plunge, with Captain Andy capturing each jump on the GoPro. He later shared the videos with us via email, giving us a chance to relive the thrilling moment whenever we wanted! It was an exhilarating way to experience the beauty of Kleftiko from a whole new perspective.

Return to Port

We didn’t want to leave Kleftiko but unfortunately, the time had come.  On our ay back to the port, we were served delicious Greek Yogurt and fresh fruit, along with another toast of Ouzo. We were also offered wine and beer along with water.

This boat tour not only exceeded all of my expectations, but it was truly the highlight of our entire trip to Milos!  The experiences of exploring the Kleftiko sea caves left us speechless many times throughout the day! I cannot recommend this boat tour enough! It really is an absolute must-do for your Milos vacation!

What to Bring (And Not To Bring)

  • Liquid Sunscreen – Avoid bringing spray sunscreen on this boat tour. It’s frowned upon because it makes the deck slippery. . If you do bring spray sunscreen, you’ll need to spray it into your hand first and then apply it, rather than spraying it directly onto your body.

  • GoPro – If you have a GoPro, definitely bring it! We captured some amazing footage snorkeling and exploring the sea caves. While the captain will take videos of your jumps and adventures, it’s still great to have your own camera to document the experience.

  • Waterproof Phone Lanyard – If you don’t have a GoPro, bring a waterproof phone lanyard! You can take pictures and videos in the sea caves with your phone. Keep in mind, there’s a lot of splashing on the Zodiac boat, so you’ll want to secure your phone with a waterproof lanyard to protect it.

  • Snorkel Gear – If you prefer using your own snorkel gear, feel free to bring it along. The tour provides snorkel equipment, but some may prefer their own for comfort and fit.

  • Hat and Towel – A hat for sun protection and a towel for drying off after a swim are always a good idea!

  • Cash for Tips – Don’t forget to bring some cash to tip the crew. They work hard to make sure you have an amazing experience!
