My husband and I went to Las Vegas with some of our friends for a birthday celebration. One of the activities planned for the big birthday weekend was a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas. It is only a 45 minute helicopter ride from Las Vegas to the west rim of the Grand Canyon.
I was a little anxious about the helicopter part as I had never been in an helicopter before. I am so glad I didn’t let my anxiety prevent me from participating in this incredible experience. This entire experience had us all feeling like we were on an episode of The Bachelor. Limosuines, helicopters, a champagne picnic and flying over the Vegas strip at night–it really had it all!
Limo Transport
Our helicopter tour to the Grand Canyon included transportation to the airport by limousine. Shortly after breakfast, a limo arrived at our Las Vegas hotel to take us to the airport. Once we arrived at the airport, we watched a short safety video and then we were taken out to the helicopter. Each helicopter fits 6 people in addition to the pilot. Lucky for us, our group was exactly 6 people!
Take Off Over Las Vegas Strip
When we boarded the helicopter, my nerves started to get the best of me. However, after we took off, my anxiety was calmed by how peaceful and beautiful the scenery was. Immediately after take off, we flew over the Las Vegas strip with a birds-eye view of all of the casinos.
Hoover Dam
Shortly after flying over the Las Vegas strip, we approached Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam. Lake Mead was just gorgeous from this view. The water was so blue! Our helicopter pilot flew us directly over the Hoover Dam, giving us several angles and vantage points to see the entire Dam.
Valley of Fire
Shortly after leaving Lake Mead, our helicopter tour flew over the Valley of Fire. The scenery over the Valley of Fire was so colorful and unique.
Flying over the Grand Canyon
Approaching the west rim of the Grand Canyon was incredible. From above, the Grand Canyon reveals its true grandeur. The scale is staggering; it’s impossible to fully comprehend the vastness until you see it from the air. The sheer cliffs plunge thousands of feet below, while the Colorado River snakes its way through the Canyon floor.
There’s a sense of freedom as you hover above this natural wonder, with nothing but open sky stretching out in every direction.
Landing & Lunch Inside the Grand Canyon
The best part of this entire helicopter tour was landing on the floor of the Grand Canyon, right on the banks of the Colorado River. We were completely awestruck with the experience of descending down into the Canyon.
Once the helicopter landed in the Grand Canyon, we were greeted with a champagne picnic set up under a canopy. Each of us were given our own picnic basket with sandwiches, fruit, pasta salad and water or soda–in addition to the champagne.
After lunch, we were able to explore the floor of the Grand Canyon for about an hour.
Helicopter Flight Back to Las Vegas
The flight back to Las Vegas took the same path as the flight to the Grand Canyon. Our group switched seats within the helicopter for the return flight, which allowed different perspectives of the majestic scenery below.
