If you’re planning a trip to the beautiful Greek island of Milos, choosing the right place to stay can make all the difference. Each part of the island offers a unique vibe — from bustling port towns to peaceful fishing villages and relaxing beachside escapes. In this post, I’ll break down the best areas to stay in Milos, who they’re perfect for, and my top hotel and rental picks in each one.  Everything you need to help you choose where to stay in Milos!

1. Adamas (Port Town)

Adamas is the transportation hub of Milos and the easiest place to stay if you want convenience. It’s right by the ferry port, offers plenty of restaurants, rental shops, cafes, and is the departure point for many boat tours. While not the most picturesque spot on the island, it’s practical and great for getting around.

Pros: Central location, walkable to port and restaurants, good for boat tours and public transport.

Cons: Can be busy and less scenic than other areas.

Best For:  Travelers who want to be in walking distance to several shops and restaurants and have access to public transportation.

Plaka is the island’s charming capital and known for its whitewashed alleys, epic sunsets, and traditional Greek atmosphere. It’s located up on a hill and doesn’t have beach access, but it offers incredible views and a romantic, peaceful vibe.  It is your picture perfect postcard of a colorful and charming Greek village.

Pros: Stunning sunsets, traditional Greek charm, great photo opportunities.

Cons: No beach access, uphill location may not suit all travelers.

Best For:  Couples, photographers, sunset lovers, and culture seekers.

3. Pollonia (Seaside Village)

Pollonia is a quiet fishing village that’s grown into one of the island’s most popular spots for a laid-back vacation. It’s known for its lovely waterfront restaurants, family-friendly beach, and slower pace. It is located in the far northeast corner of the island, so it is the longest drive from Pollonia to many of the island’s top attractions.  Though a farther distance, it’s worth it if you want a tranquil atmosphere.

Pros: Peaceful, family-friendly, lots of dining options, great swimming.

Cons: Distance from the port and many of the major attractions.

Best For:  Romantic getaways, families, foodies, peace and quiet.

4. Klima (Colorful Fishing Village)

Klima is one of the most unique places to stay in Milos, thanks to its iconic row of colorful boathouses right on the water. Most accommodations here are renovated ‘syrmata’ (fishermen’s houses) that have been converted into cozy stays. It’s quiet and scenic, but you’ll need to travel for restaurants or shops.

Pros: Iconic scenery, perfect for photos, unique waterfront experience.

Cons: Limited amenities, no nightlife or shops.

5. Paleochori (Beachside Escape)

Paleochori is a relaxing beach area on the southern shore with dramatic cliffs, colorful rock formations, and some of the warmest waters on the island. It’s great if you’re looking for a quieter stay right on the beach. Dining is limited to a few tavernas, but the views and tranquility make up for it.

Pros: Gorgeous beach, peaceful and relaxing, cliffside views.

Cons: Not walkable to other areas, few dining options.

Best For: Honeymooners, beach lovers, seclusion, relaxation.

It’s a great option for travelers who want something a little more laid-back than Plaka but still close to the island’s highlights. The village has several excellent tavernas and easy access to historical sites.

Pros: Authentic local feel, close to Plaka and historical sites, fewer crowds.

Cons: Not walkable to beaches, limited shops.

Best For: History buffs, food lovers, and those seeking a quiet, charming base.

7. Mandrakia (Tiny Coastal Hamlet)

It’s one of the most scenic places to stay in Milos, but very limited in terms of amenities. Most people visit for lunch or a photo stop, but if you’re looking for a completely tranquil and photogenic stay, Mandrakia is a hidden gem.

Pros: Gorgeous scenery, peaceful and uncrowded, unique setting.

Cons: Very few accommodations, no shops or nightlife.

Best For: Artists, photographers, travelers seeking solitude and beauty.
